Island Tranquility

Photography can be a lot like hunting and fishing. You go out hoping to find something to bring back but often you only return with only great stories of the one that got away or you found nothing to capture. This island has been an elusive target for me for about 6 years. I wanted to capture it in snow with the background land fogged out. Snow is so rare here (I am not complaining!) and then getting the atmospheric conditions right and me being there too, But I finally captured an image that is what I envisioned!

During a rare major snow storm in February, on my birthday! –what a gift, I borrowed my wife’s SUV and went out and the conditions were perfect. Huge snowflakes were falling and wiped out the distant land.

  1. Yes! You got it, after years, your efforts have finally payed of. I love this image so much. For me it really captures the haunting feeling that island has as well as an eerie feeling snowy days on the island often have. Alcatraz actually comes to mind with the fog, mist and loneliness of this small island.
