The Solitary Pier

This image was on my bucket list a long time – a pier  taken with a long exposure to make the water glass-like – but I have finally  captured one. I have admired wonderful piers in pictures but found it extremely difficult to find a photogenic one. It was a beautiful day with not a cloud in the sky and I had found my pier!

It was a challenge getting set up with my trusty tripod on a rocky slope and positioning it where I wanted it to be. I made the exposure for 59 seconds as I wanted the water to become glass-like, eliminating the waves, and making the people invisible that were strolling on the pier. I took a number of exposures to eliminate the possibility of ghostly people, that paused to look over the railing, from appearing in my image.

  1. Wow! This image seriously took my breath away. It is fantastic! I’ve just been staring at it getting lost in it. There is something very emotional about it yet beautiful. I’d like to add this to my collection!
